With her guide addressed to a generation of girls who have grown up "denying feminism but embracing its rewards," the youngest woman ever elected president of the California chapter of NOW seeks to make feminism palatable for a generation put off by outmoded images of unshaven legs and burning bras. Echoing Robin Morgan's phrase "sisterhood is global," Seely takes a holistic approach, touching on everything from the exploitation of sweatshop workers (90% of whom are women) and the importance of easing racial tensions within the feminist community to her own struggle against bulimia—she presents herself as living proof of the depth and prevalence of body hatred among women—along with more familiar subjects like Title IX and the politics of abortion. About the Author
Megan Seely is a third wave feminist and activist. She was the youngest-ever elected president of California National Organization for Women, serving two terms from 2001 to 2005. An activist from a very young age she has been involved in community organizing and feminist activism on local, state, and national levels. She lives and teaches in northern California.

great intro/refrence book

a well written book about feminism, particularity as it pertains to younger feminists. a great choice for girls and women (or men) who would like to further their knowledge about and/or participation in feminism. along with plenty of solid content in each chapter, the author includes lists of books, films, websites, etc., which make the book a valuable resource even after the first read-through.

Great Primer and Activist "How To"

This book is in the spirit of _That Takes Ovaries_ and _Grassroots_, but in my opinion does a better job than those two books and other books in this genre.
It offers a well-written, lucid discussion about the modern women's movement in the US. It is really a great primer and is best suited for the lay audience or a lower division undergraduate course.
I read it in two sittings in less than 24 hours, it was more than a beach read and I dog-eared lots of pages. The best part of the book was at the end of each chapter: examples, resources and other sources.
This is definitely a must-have for any young feminist or young people who are wanting to learn more about feminism.
The only reason why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is that for my purposes it is a 4, btdt and continue to do so.

Great resource

Required reading for my women's studies course- fantastic overview of historic and current feminist issues and movements. I love the resources at the end of each chapter. I rented this book on my kindle but, as a mother of v two young women, I plan on purchasing a copy for OUR bookshelf.
