Great Book

I took Mixed Race and the Law at Whittier Law School with Professor Warren Cohen. It was one of the best classes I have ever had in the eight years of higher education I have tortured myself with. I recommend both the class and this text to anyone considering its purchase. It is suitable reading for those who have not chosen to pursue a legal education, and immersed in the legal material are some really compelling stories.

I came across this book while looking for documentation on Free Tom Smith and his "wives" Charity1 and Charity2. I had heard about the story of the children Malinda and Sarah's slavery, but I had no idea that this was such a ground breaking case. Thank you for filling in the blanks in my family search!
